MOVIE OF THE WEEK.

SANTHOSH SUBRAMANIAM

Elevating father-son relationship to a graceful new high.Prakashraj is a father taking pleasure in providing every unasked for desire of the son. Jayam Ravi is the son who expects his father to provide the necessities.Agreeing to everything the father wishes for including a car and his life partner, Jayam Ravi gets engaged to Vijaya Kumar's daughter Keerat.Wanting at least to get married to a girl of his own liking, Jayam Ravi is floored on seeing Genelia. On hearing this, father Prakashraj fumes with anger. He asks his son to make every girl he likes, to live with them for a week as he would like to test them and he would give a green signal if they pass the test. And Genelia comes to stay with them. How they fare in the test is the rest of the story.Bending his back to every wish of his father and feeling like a caged bird, Jayam Ravi performs well when he laments over his own desires becoming a bonsai plant.Ravi's gang of friends is a sample of how youth are not the same when at home and outside home.Genelia's acting has now opened out. She has an interesting character that exhibits the innocence of friendship from the panipuri vendor to the five star hotel circuit.Going around half mad but becoming calm when it is called for, Genelia makes us watch her.

Forcing his wishes on his son even to the selection of his clothes, Pakashraj proves again that he is a giant in acting when his mistakes were pointed out.A handkerchief becomes necessary when Prakashraj commiserates with his son, holding his hand and says he could have expressed his wishes to him earlier, and Jayam Ravi retorts that his father holding his hand was like a rope on his hands. It is poetry when father and son interchange their roles with Ravi answering the girl's folks and Prakashraj consoling Ravi's girlfriend. Those who invoke our laughter include the hero's friends Santhanam and Premji, Genelia's father Sayaji Shinde and the college principal MS Bhaskar.Small characters like Jayam Ravi's younger sister who is make-up crazy, elder sister Kausalya who goes around holding phone to her ear all the time, and servant Sathyan, are carefully crafted.Cinematography by Kannan and music by Devisriprasad that wants you to dance, deserve special mention.Raja's direction is splendid even for a remake.

'Santhosh Subramaniam' is a success.
